Salmon on the BGE is goooood!

Wish I had an operating digital camera, as this was quite a colorful meal. (mine just says "memory full" although its completely empty, if anyone is a digital camera expert). I did learn though that I need a pair of goggles...never had so much smoke, and didn't use any chips. I tried to be careful...oiled down the grill beforehand and everything...but when I tried to shake loose a filet with the tongs before flipping I ended up getting the meat loose from the skin on one of the filets. On the subsequent flip, I lost a little piece through the grill, which definitely added to the smoke. Anyway, along with the salmon filets (olive oil, tony c's, melted butter, lemon juice) I had some steamed asparagus wrapped in foil with garlic, butter, and lemon juice. When I pulled both off I cranked the fire up and had a red bell pepper that I just cut into four pieces and grilled on both sides. The skin got black in the fire, but pulled right off and they were really tender and good. The oven contributed to the meal with some boxed scalloped potatoes. All in all one of my favorite cooks so far, everything turned out fantastic..especially the salmon. I'll also be cooking asparagus and red bell pepper the same way in the future. Very simple, but great results.

RG,[p]Salmon, Grouper, Shrimp, Pork, Beef, Chicken ... ITS ALL GOOD! Father's day was good at our house. I got a new laptop computer (better to view the BGE web site), and a BBQ tool set. I cooked a whole chicken (quartered by the butcher). Used the Dizzy Pig "Jamacian Fire" rub. Results were fantastic.[p]Smokey

    RG,
Thanks for the tip on what to eat first. With regard to your salmon, you may want to try a spatula that is especially created for flipping fish, rather than the tongs. This particular spat is very thin and flexible and usually has long slots in it. This should help you remove it from the grill in one piece. Oh, and flesh side down first, skin side down on the flip.

    RG,
Do you have a card reader attached to your PC? If so, you might try formatting the card while it is in the reader. Or do you have another card to try in the camera?[p]TNW

    RG,
I have a memory card that acts up once and awhile in my digital camera. I use it as a spare card. Sometimes by turning the camera on and off, it will work OK. Then the next time I turn the camera on, it will tell me there isn't a memory card installed. It's really there, and all the pictures are OK, but it doesn't recognize it.[p]That's why it's a spare.[p]I'm doing salmon on the grill right now. Been on for about 2 hours. Actually I smoked it real heavy from a cold grill. Took 1 hour to reach 225. Now it has been going for the second hour at 225. Indirect over a water pan, teriyaki marinade (6 hrs) with fresh garlic, cilantro, ginger, and seasonings. Lots of apple, alder, maple, black cherry and a little hickory. I just looked at it from the top vent, and it is coming along nicely....maybe another hour. [p]Mike in MN[p]We are wacko...but the neighborhood smells wonderful!

  • The Naked Whiz,[p]Actually, I don't even have a memory card. That could fix the problem, but I'm just using the internal memory. Back when it was working I was getting the photos onto the computer quickly enough that space never became an issue, so I've not bought a memory card.
  • Poncho,[p]The tongs were quicky replaced by some kind of pie server. The wife doesn't know that yet. Not meant for flipping fish, but is very similar to what you described.

  • RG,[p]If it has interneal memory, there should still be a way to format the built-in memory. I have a new Sony digital cam with a memory stick but an older one with built-in memory. The older one has a very small button you can press to format the internal drive. See if you have something like that.[p]Buster
