Pig Ears?

Just got back from my favorite butcher and have some chicken breasts and legs smoking with some hickory wood for the next 90 minutes.

While there they had some pigs ears, so I picked up a couple of pack because my dogs love them. Usually buy them at PetsSmart, but these are uncooked.

I want to smoke them on the BGE for the doggies. Anybody have any clue how long, what temp, etc?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
IlliniEgger

Low temp until the dogs go wild!

Hmmm...good question...my dog loves them as well. I've not thought about smoking my own until now. I would think you'd want to bake them a bit as opposed to smoking so as to get them crunchy...say 325-350 indirect for an hour or so...I'd toss in a hunk or two of smokewoods too...but my guess is the dogs won't care much!

I SMOKE THEM AT ABOUT 250 to 300 degrees
you cant go wrong if you use the platesetter
my dogs went crazy when I smoked them for them

    good luck :)
  • I am going to have to do that. My Lab and Beagle have to have a pig ear right after there dinner. If they don't get one the Lab will pester you until he gets one. Whenever I fire up the Egg they think I am cooking there dinner. I bet they would love one. If you smoked them until they are crunchy like the store bought ones it may last a few minutes if not one gulp. I have found that the crunchy pig ears do keep a lot of the tarter off there teeth and I don't have to clean them as often.
