Hi Everyone,

I new to the egg family, but I have been reading about the Pit minder or the DigII so do I need one of these or is it just a extra item? I know about the cost of the two but I was just wondering if it really helps when you are smoking.

Thanks a bunch,

Patti

These are powered vent systems. BBQ Guru folks have a few different models and there is also the Stoker.

    Both are great units.

These help keeping the temperature stable and control how hot the lump burns.

These have temperature probes but are not designed as actual thermometers.

Thermoworks has a instant fast read thermometer called Thermapen (about $80 and well worth the expense) which by far the most favorite, and best thermometer to get. This is one of the best accessories I have purchased for my eggs. It has also helped my food taste results and texture results the most.

I also like the Maverick ET-73 (abt $40 online) which has a remote display with two probes for monitoring, not controlling, the egg. This has a high & low temperature alarm as well as a food done alarm.

Make sure you follow the instructions and calibrate your Dome Thermometer.
