This is with the fire ring removed to get down to the unbearable heat.

    just watch out heat causes expansion and with the little clearence in there you may end up getting it stuck or worse yet cracking the base... and i am not sure if that is covered by the warrantee!! i think it was mike in abita that took out his fire ring and put a grate on it and cracked the base....

    Just went out and remeasured.If I adjust it to the minimal spread there will be a 3/4 inch clearance on each side.If it expands that much the cast iron will be melting. Perhaps some hi tech guys might chime in on this.

    Sorry about that but it is fully adjustable in the width.The depth is 7 3/4 inch.
