Besides start it up and cook, what are some things a first time egg owner should do to make sure the egg is working properly?

I read a thread a couple of days ago about a bad seal and was curious to know what to look for or do before firing up the egg for a first time?

I am planning on purchasing one either this weekend or next and would like to obtain as much info as possible before getting it. I can't wait though.

TIA

congrats Wannabe...you're gonna love cooking on the egg!..search the forum and I think you'll find a library of stuff and recommendations for early cooking on a new egg...many folks recommend not doing a high temp cook early on but to do several lower temp (below 400) cooks..both to get familiar with your egg and how it works and to also let the dome gasket break in before subjecting it to searing temperatures....congrats again and welcome to the community!

I know the first thing that I did was dance around crazy-like and then started calling friends and blasting them with pictures from my phone. heh B)

Your purchase should include a DVD, it is packed full of good stuff for new egg owners...It's very informative and instructional and it will answer MANY of your questions...Welcome by the way...

So, saying egghead is not enough?

Alright, thanks everyone. I will def watch the video first and read the manual.

After that I am sure I will get to play here and there. I will do some slow cooks to start off, or at least hope, cause I am sure I am going to have to learn how to adjust the heat. I hope I dont burn or melt something though.
