Thanks to the wealth of information on this site I learned that Big Green Egg Charcoal which is very expensive in Canada is produced by Royal Oak. Loblaws (at least in southern Ontario) now carries it. I picked some up yesterday. $10.00 for a 10 lb. bag. A pretty good price for a decent charcoal.

in your area i believe you can get maple leaf 8kg bags for like 15 bucks witch would be a much better deal!
  • Watch for CTC (Crappy Tire) to offer Royal Oak as well. I picked up a couple of 20lb bags there last year.

Last year Walmart in Vaughan (southern ontario) had the 10lb royal oak (blue bag) for $6.xx, this year it's $9.9x.

Yesterday at Real Canadian Superstore I saw same RO 10lb for $9.9x, 20lb for $13.9x. Have not checked Lowe's yet.

My local Italian grocer carries the 4.5KG Argentinian Le Classique for $7.99. They haven't replenished the 9KG stock yet.

At Ontario Gas BBQs, both 8KG Maple Leaf and 9KG Le Classique are $19.99 each.

Couple of months ago I did a group buy with a fellow on another forum, we got Maple Leaf 8kg at Nella Cutlery in North York, for minimum purchase of 20 bags, it's 12.50 each, otherwise it's $14.50. But they also charge $10 fuel surcharge per order. Also, Nella charges GST only, so you save 8% PST.

Don't quote me but I believe 'Little Steven' can get Maple Leaf in Mississauga at a much better price.

As for personal preference, Maple Leaf is good but I find they contain too many tiny broken pieces, it's ok for quick cooks but not great for low and slow. The Le Classique (distributed by Great Charcoal company in Newmarket ontario) has larger lumps, denser and burns longer.
