Too big of Ribeye?

Iowa State Egger

I don't know if there is a such thing, but I went to my local grocery store and they had full ribeye loins on sale. The butcher told me that they are normal about 16 lbs. He first pulled out one for me that was only 12 lbs, so I asked if he could find me a bigger one. I pulled out a 21 lbs loin. He looked at me kind of weird when I asked him to cut them 1 inch thick!
Anyway, I hope that this doesn't affect the tenderness or texture. These are scheduled for lunch so I will let you know.

nah..never too big..these were 1 1/4 thick and about 24oz each...
I might woulda gone at least 1 1/4 thick, but they should be very tasty -
I did not know there was such a thing as too big ribeye!! Those look good.
-
Those will be just perfect at 1"
I recall the executive chef at one of NYC's famous steakhouses on a local TV interview once saying..For home use anything more than 1" will be difficult to achieve steahouse like results due to the high heat they an get in their kitchens..
Guess he didn't realize some of us have BGE's  -
Isn't that an oxymoron?

what a silly question.

Dave,
I recently bought 2 whole ribeyes on sale and had them cut 2 inches thick. I got 16 great ribeyes that we vacuum sealed and froze.
As noted above, with an Egg, a 2" steak can be cooked to perfection. :woohoo:
I cook one steak and we split it between us. On one of these, Jana usually still has some left over for the next day.
Hmmm, I'm thinking it's about time for another one!! -
NONSENSE!! :pinch: :pinch:
There is not such thing as too big!!
I like mine about 1.5 to 2 inches thick and the wife and I share one.
