OT: anybody use a Canon PowerShot SD850
RRP
Posts: 26,455
somehow, somewhere, sometime either my wife or I have misplaced our Canon A85 digital camera as we have not been able to find it for over 2 months now. I like the Canon PowerShot features and ease and I think I want the SD850 model. It retails at $299. The reviews I've read satisfy me, but just curious if any eggers have this model and what you think. TIA

I've had a rebel xt for years. This x-mas I got my wife a sd790 ( 10 mp ) and it takes great picts. Best Buy had them for 179$ in Dec. Couldn't pass it up.

I'm a Pentax K10D girl, but I recently read an article in Digital Photo magazine. They were comparing their top 5 cameras. I don't know anything about the model you asked about but the Canon 1000D got 5 stars for Features and Build, Performance and Image Quality. The only place it fell down is price, they thought it was priced a little high for that category of camera. Canon makes a sound line of products.
Other solid performers were Nikon D60, and Sony Alpha 200 -

Ron,
I have two of the 570-is that I use at work. I can say they take pretty pictures. I like cameras with AA batteries, and I like the ones with the lens adaptor so I can buy filters or clear lenses. If nothing else the adaptor and a clear lens keeps dust out of the main lens and the moving parts.
Check with B&H Camera. I buy all my stuff from them, they are an outstanding company. You can also call and visit with a rep.

Thanks everyone. After sitting down with my wife and making a list of the features we wanted we ended up buying a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS model. It has 9mp, but what really sold me was the 10x zoom capability. By sheer luck we even found it on sale locally as low or lower than Internet merchants. It's cool and here's a picture from across the room so now I really can let a sleeping dog lie!

That was the senior member of our dynamic duo of West Highland Terriors aka Westies.

Dublin is 10 and Brogan is 2. They are our 4 and 5th Westies as we love the breed.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

We have one in the office at work. Good camera. I almost grabbed one from Costco. They have the SD880 IS for $269 with a free 2GB SD card.
When I went there to get one I actually bought the Panasonic DMC-TZ4 because of the 10x Leica lense. That lens is a killer. When I'm not carrying my Nikon D90 I always have the Panasonic handy. It never disappoints.
DOH! Just saw you already pulled the trigger. I'm glas you went 10x optical. You will really come to love that. -
I've been using the Canon Powershots in work and at home for the past 3 or 4 years or so. I really like the ease with which they operate. I currently use a 790 that my wife bought me for Christmas.
my last one was killed in it's first year when I had it in my pants pocket with my carkeys and some other stuff. The LCD display was cracked (inside) and the camera was rendered useless.
I like the way I can also take videos if I feel like it. My wife has a nice SLR digital camera but it doesn't do video. (Nice photos though)
