One word sums it up... mouthwatering![p]It's a fun process that will improve with time. Experiment with different rubs, seasonings, lump, and woods.[p]

willmw, as soon as word (and taste) gets out, you'll have a whole boatfull of new "best" friends. :-) Now, the thing to play with is sauces. SC Mustard, NC Vinegar, GA Red, Alabama White, Kentucky black (or did I get those reversed?). The choices are pretty endless and all are pretty good.

Ahh..yes...I remember my first one..and it was in a tent too..[p]We was camping in the white mountains, me, poppa, and Beulah. It all started out just fine..poppa cathing fish... showin us how to scale and filet them..sittin by the fire whittlin things outta sticks..sleepin under the stars...but then one night..while the rain was fallin..things went so horribly wrong. [p]I suppose poppa didn't know it was gonna rain at all in them 3 days..but sure enough..late in the second day..the sky opened up and it started rainin cats and dogs like you read about..that's when poppa realized he'd only packed the small tent..not the big one...so we had to curl up pretty good to all git outta the rain..and we was in there for quite a few hours...until finally poppa put out the lanterns and we all started to doze off.[p]Sometime in the middle of the night...I awoke with a serious case of the hibbie jibbies... feeling that I was being watched...I peered into the darkness..not really bein able to make out much..but I did think I saw an eye lookin back at me...I reached over to Beulah..and gently woke her..makin sure not to wake up poppa...I asked her if'n she can make out what it was..she said all she could see was that it had a lot of fur all over it..and it sure did look like it was mad. I reached over for the lantern and Beulah and I slowly leaned forward to get a closer look..as I cranked up the lantern.[p]This is when I realized a couple of things I sure wish I'd known before goin on this campin trip with poppa. Most importantly, that he sometimes sleeps with no clothes on...now this in itself would not have been a problem considerin that when he fell asleep he was facin us but all curled up due to the tight quarters essentially hidin things ..but when you consider the second thing I learned about poppa that night..that he tends to flop around a lot in his sleep..and it was more than obvious that sometime durin the night..he had flipped over..and in so doing ..exposed the most ugliest of objects.[p]When the realization hit that what we'd seen was the nasty end of poppa..we started giggling like you read about..but after 2 minutes..we decided to play a little trick on poppa. I went out to the fire and picked up a piece of blackened wood from the fire..and I bravely...reached over..and carefully drew a big letter W on either side of poppas nasty end..then I said "Look Beulah..it spells wow!"...and I sure started to do some real serious guffaw belly laughin..but Beulah wasn't laughing..she leaned over and said I autta check my spellin..that what she seen spelled mom not wow..poor Beulah..sometimes I think when they was givin out smarts..she thought they said farts and toldem "no thanks"...it took me nearly 10 minutes to splain to her how..since we was all tucked into that tent..this way and that...that she was seein it upsidedown.[p]We sure did laugh at that, until we leaned over to start wipin that burnt wood offa there..and when we was real close ..this nasty thing did something that I'll never forget (matter of fact if'n I still didn't have the lantern on..and known what this thing was..then I most surely would have been convinced that someone WAS starin at me..although they sure did go long before blinkin)...and I can tell you when that happened..it sure did change the mood in that tent..causin us to shudder..pinch our noses...immediately roll over..shut that lantern off..and pray for no nightmares. [p]The next day it was still rainin..so we decided to pack up and go home..and soon as we got home..momma..god bless her gnarly old soul..told us to git outta our wet clothes..and poppa went back to his room to git outta his clothes..with momma following close behind..and not 2 minutes later I hear momma scream "MOM ...MOM ?"...that's when me and Beulah started doin some more real serious guffaw belly laughin again..until poppa came outta that room chasin us with his giant belt. [p]I think that was the whoopin of a lifetime..and all I can hope is it was good enough to knock out that vision of poppa winkin at us that night. I can tell you this though..poppa finally took us on another campin trip..and now he wears his underwear to bed..so I suppose what we'd done... did us all some good in the long run..even momma.[p]ahhh...the life of a Stump[p]StumpBaby
