I SPRUCED UP MY OLD LADY!

Lets start out by saying that I am not brave enough to call LC an "Ole(or Old) Lady". I may be take risks with others things in life but not that! Many of you know that our Egg is well over 13 years old. Throughout the years, she has recieved upgrades and new parts to keep her looking new and cooking at her peak. She will be cooking up a storm at the Ocala Eggfest and I wanted her to look her best. (She is a little touchy about her age) So I took a look at her and started my assesment.
OK first thing is I must clean up the wood on the Egg mates. I have had them for about 2 years and they dont look good. Second, something must be done about the Egg nest. That IS 13 years old and the wheels still work but are rusty. Ok easy project right? Well kinda.
I started out taking all the wood off the "mates" and cleaning them with denatured alachol. Then sanded all the marks and off. I then took secured the spring hinge with some zip ties. (VERY IMPORTANT STEP NOT TO AVOID)
Removed the bottom band and removed the dome. I then emptied the inside and tipped the base and nest to one side to get a good view of the wheel. Simple, spray some liquid wrench on the nuts, wait and remove. I didn't have a tool that would hold the nut shaft while trying to lossen the jam nut. It is sawz-all time. It took about 2 minutes to cut off all four wheels. As it turned out, it was better to buy a new nest, then to buy new wheels, sand and paint the old nest. Here are the results.

All in all a fun project. If you are in Ocala, stop in and you can meet my "Ole Lady". :woohoo:

  • :woohoo: :woohoo: Whoa there Kemosobie. Reading that subject line, I got a flash mental picture of LC grabing the .45 or the lead lined frying pan and chasing the infamous bubba tim down the road.

  • Thanks for sharing the picture. So those are the takin the hide off of bubba tim tools.

It's nice to see the 'tools' of a cook. It didn't dawn on me that she would take here knives home each day. But logical.

What is the knife on the left used for?
