WMK-

There are over 7500 registered users on this website and it is AWESOME! But one thing this site does not have that almost all other major sites have is a For Sale/Trade forum. It could be named 'Eggcellent Sales & Trades' or something even better. But my point is as consumers we are completely obsessed with these grills and some eggsessory Chubby may have collecting dust I may be looking to buy on eBay. I believe it would be a forum highly visited and would be appreciated by all. Of course, rules would need to be established for buyers and sellers but I believe you wouldn't have any problems. Please post what your thoughts are on the subject. Thank you for everything you do.

    Bootleg,

My personal take is that it sounds like a bit of work to establish and enforce the "rules" and potentially to mediate any disputes that may ensue. But, I suppose if we (WMK and WPB) got a cut of the "take", then we might give it a go ;). But seriously,....

The forum is, however, sponsored by the Big Green Egg; and, though I haven't asked them, I'm thinking they may not be to very keen about including such a section -- because they are in the business of selling much of the things that would no doubt be traded. I can check. I could be wrong, but....

For a different forum, one that is supported by advertising, or directly by its membership, this seems like a good idea. But for us, I'm sorry, I don't think it will fly.
  • Honestly, I don't agree. I read the regular forum where people every once in awhile will post an egg for sale or an accessory and feel like it would be a good idea to have one place for those posts to go. The way this forum operates I believe it will be mostly self monitored by most of the regular members already here. Now if BGE does have a problem then this is a non-issue. But I really think it would be a great addition that all of the users would enjoy but if it got out of hand or became a problem then it could always be taken down. And if a moderator is needed I would gladly volunteer.

Here are some ideas that I have taken from other large websites.
-Before entering the forum (every time) you would have to agree to the rules of the forum.
-If there is a dispute it would be up to the parties to work them out, sort of like a classified ad in the newspaper.
-A user would have to have so many posts to a registered name before you could use the forum. For example, you could read the forum but not post until you posted 25 times on the regular forum.
-The items that would be for sale could only be Big Green Egg related, no other brand ceramic cooker or accessories would be allowed.
-No eggs could be sold by a dealer using the forum and eggs that are sold privately would be up to the responsible parties for delivery. We would recommend that all egg sales would be arranged for pick up. NO SHIPPING!
-Even though no sales by dealers I think posts pertaining to in store sales and special promotions would be allowed.
-No comments about pricing or what people want in trade.
-All posts would require a location and price/trade request.
-No bumps on posts or reposting within a 24 hr period.

I think if kept simple and created with the intentions and integrity of this website it would be AWESOME and BGE would have no objections!

    Thanks WMK!
