GASKET FELL OFF ON SECOND COOK

Just to let any potential EGG buyers know that they can expect that the gasket will fall off. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM by the folks at BGE, why in heck they dont fix the problem is beyond me. I bought the thing knowning that this would happen but it still dont ease the pain after spending a GRAND for something with a piece of crap for a gasket and glue, it was put on with double sided sticky tape. There seems to be a fix for this problem. Why dont BGE fix it.

Why didn't you just buy a Brinkman All-In_one?
It don't have a gasket, and seems to be more your style.
You sound too stupid to own an Egg. You should just give it to your neighbor. He might cook you some good food on it. -
Despite the idiots response BGE does have a fix. They are fixing it, but there are still quite a few eggs out there with the old gasket.
It doesn't fail for everyone, so it's just easier for them to fix the ones that do fail. Call the retail store and get the new gasket. -
You say you bought the egg knowing this would happen...
Yes, it is a known problem, but not with every single egg. Once the eggs get out in the distribution system there is not much one can do to tell which have problems and which don't.
Anyone can read over and over and over and over again that BGE has been getting out replacement gaskets in short order. I have also read where some of the dealers have been sending out extra gaskets with a new egg.
I don't think anyone could imagine that BGE is just thought it might be a fun exercise.
I would have to think BGE got a batch of gaskets with problematic "double stick tape". The adhesive membrane (double stick tape) has worked very well in the past with only a very few problems.
Give it a break, contact your dealer and or BGE, get the new gasket and enjoy your egg.

I would ignore the above post by “visitor” Hugh Jazz. Look, you have a right to be a little upset. The same thing happened to me and you are right; BGE certainly knows about this. It seems that the two-sided tape worked in the past, but they are suffering through a bad run of gaskets now.
The good news is that it will be easy for you to put on a new gasket because the work of removing the old gasket is already done for you. Tell your dealer that you want one of the nomex gaskets WITHOUT adhesive (the ones with adhesive use the same crappy tape). Then go to any hardware store and get yourself a can of 3M Super 77 and install your new nomex gasket. My experience is that it will STAY on and you will enjoy your egg again.
Search this forum and you will find plenty of info on this. Fred even has a video on how to install the nomex gasket: http://www.fredsmusicandbbq.com/category_s/474.htm
Don’t let this get you down. Just fix the darn thing and get back to egging! Your egg will be better than ever with the nomex. Mine has survived several high temp cooks and it seals much better than the felt ever did anyway.

My Gasket fell off after the first attempt at a T-Rex'd Ribeye. Replaced it and it fell off after the second attempt. Never replaced. No problem even at low and slow. Relax and enjoy.

Hmmm...What did you replace it with? I haven't heard of any problems using Super 77 alone. Some people have used Super 77 and the stick on stuff, then the stick-on fails and the gasket comes off anyway.
Oh well, I'm still going strong with my nomex and Super 77 after some high temps. So I hope my luck holds. I like the great seal I'm getting with the nomex. But if you are happy egging with no gasket, then just keep on egging! :P -
I am a new egg owner. I also had a gasket problem, and I also was pretty mad when it happened. My best advice is get the replacement gasket fix your egg. Make some awesome ribs eat them and you will forget all about the problem that you had. I know that is how it worked for me.

Got the new egg around x-mas, gasket dropped off on first pizza cook, replaced it the next day and no problem since.
Tried calling BGE at Atlanta 3-4 times to order a gasket. Nobody home. Sent an e-mail, week later someone e-mailed me and said to call them. great.
Called Fred and he is shipping me two Nomex gaskets for backup, nice to talk with someone and get a little service.
BGE has a problem with gaskets, you would think all the bad ones would have worked themselves through the system by now. -
Depends on how fast the dealers sell them. BGE, Distributors, Dealers them to the buyer.
There is not any way to tell which are bad or are going to fail. BGE and it now sounds like dealers are on the spot getting them fixed.

I'm lucky that my gasket has been fine. One possible reason for the problem might also be the high temperature cooks that people do as soon as they get their BGE. I followed the instructions from Fred as well as the BGE instruction book and did several low and slow cooks before I did a high temperature one. I would assume this would also be true for your first few cooks after changing a gasket.
If my gasket ever does fall off, I'll replace it with a Nomex one.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I got a nomex and 3M super 77 from a friend and replaced gasket, now will try for some ribs sun for the 500. I called my dealer and asked for a nomex gasket and they had never heard about it. so ill be in touch with BGE folks mon.
Thanks again, was just dissapointed that it failed so soon, liked to never got it to cool down without the gasket.
