top keeps falling off

The top on my egg has fallen off several times when I open the egg. And its a large by the way. The last time it fell the daisy wheel cracked in two places and I don't know if its going to hold together. It has never fit snug on the lid and it kinda wobbles like the top is not round inside. I was just wandering if anyone has had this problem and if warranty would replace the top.

I'm pretty sure its not going to affect the way it cooks but it would get on my nerves. I would call them and ask what they wanted me to do? Bring the top back? Bring the whole thing back? They should make it right because they do good business. There will be others to chime in and you could also do a search in the search block to find the others that were having that problem. You pay close to 1000 for the egg so I'm sure they will make it right. If they dont call BGE in Atlanta and Im 100% sure they will take care of it. Hope this helps.

Can you clairify if your "Top" in questions is the ceramic dome of your egg or just the daisy wheel?
If it's just your daisy wheel the trick is to first make sure your egg is on a lever surface. Second is to place the pivot point of the daisy wheel towards the handle. This will stop it from swinging around when the dome is lifted and falling off.
I have never seen an egg with a tight fitting daisy wheel. The grease build up will help over time or a little aluminum foil gasket between egg and daisy wheel.
Take care,

Another thing. Did you say you cracked the daisey wheel? I dont think that thing would crack if it hit the ground. Your not talking about the ceramic cap are you? Make sure to see if the dome is out of level or if its just the ceramic cap. Throw some kinda straight edge across the egg dome where the cap goes on.

Daisy is cast iron and will crack.

Yes its the daisy wheel and the cap doesn't go down far enough to touch the very top.

Check the above link I gave you and make sure that dont help you.

That would be pretty annoying.
I think I read on here about giving the top a spin or two each time after you cook so that the gunk kind of evens out and allows for a tighter seal. Do this as the egg is cooling down and wear gloves.
I think this was referring to the ceramic top but should also work for the daisy wheel topper.
I think a little more gunk on the daisy wheel will help keep in place.
I would try and get a new top to replace the one that is cracked. Mine seemed a little loose at first but is pretty tight now...so much so I have to yank it to pull it off after a long cook. -

I would try what Photo Egg says first. That should do it.

The advice given so far is good. I'm sure someone will take care of the problem.
No one has mentioned this but it is important to use your ceramic rain cap after cooking because it gives a better seal. A better seal helps to snuff the fire completely out in the shortest amount of time, thereby saving your remaining lump for another day.
My small Egg Daisy Wheel is too small for the dome top. I don't let it bother me because it doesn't fall off when I open the lid and doesn't effect the cook, but if it did I would have been on the horn to my dealer or BGE Atlanta in a hurry. The Egg is a lifetime investment and I sure wouldn't want to have to keep picking up ill fitting parts the rest of my life.

Mine is outside as well and I also put the ceramic cap on after cooking. I usually store the daisy wheel in the egg.
After your next few cooks.....before you pull the daisy wheel off spin it around a few times (the whole daisy wheel assembly) on the egg. You could even do this while it's cooking....be careful and wear gloves as the daisy wheel can get hot! I think that might help to seat it a little better.
Once you've done this a few times I think it may help lock that daisy wheel on a little better. I also spin my ceramic cap.
It's just something I read here on the forum that makes sense to me. -
Hi Brandon,
Every once and a while the daisy wheel top is pretty loose on the top of the Egg. Since yours is cracked, I would take it back to the dealer for another one and ask for a small amount of gasket material to go around the inside of the top. I typically check every daisy wheel top and ceramic top before selling them and put gasket material on them if they are loose. I've never had anyone have problems with them. -
Take three (3) seconds to open it.
