Didn't like the Spatchcock Chicken
Hell I loved it! Thanks to all who responded. Super easy and my God was it juicy and delicious. I rubbed it with olive oil salt and pepper. I underestimated the charcol necessary so I lost heat and had to re-stoke the fire, that made my time run long but I'll get it right, I don't give up that easy. I think I'm gonna try a small turkey breast next... with a good portion of charcol.

Novice Billy T,
i too fell prey to the statements in the advertising that a couple of handfuls of lump is all you need. . .now no matter what i'm cooking, or for how long, i fill the firebox at least even to the side holes, and usually to about halfway between the sideholes and the top of the firebox/bottom of the ring. . . at worst, i have some left over for the next cook. . . [p]now you are off and running and the sky's the limit. ..i've taken the policy that if i did it on the grill or in the oven, and in some cases a pot on the stove, then it can go in the egg!!. . .[p]best[p]max

Novice Billy T, whew! When I saw your subject line I was worried that we would have to listen to The Naked Whiz rant and rave about what you did wrong. And yes you are right, it is almost impossible to put in too much lump but quite easy to put in too little. I always overfill (and have some left for the next cook).

BBQBluesStringer,
ok, i'm busted. . .guilty as charged. . . and i have always followed the 'male creed' that one NEVER seeks directions, nor do you read the directions until, and only until, you have totally failed at all other attempts (i'll have to tell you about my adventures in wiring up a new ceiling fan last weekend in my son's bedroom. . .hit the switch and the lights in the living room turned on. . . hit the light switch in the living room and the fan turned on. .. took about 4 re-wiring tries to get that mess sorted out). . .[p]in all honesty, i accidently read the bge 'book' before i knew it was supposed to be used as fire starter.. ..
