My Dr told me I should go on a diet. HDL (Good Cholesterol) was above average and my LDL (bad Cholesterol) was way below average. HOWEVER, my Triglyceride was high. Also have a family history of diabetes. Weight was also ABOVE average.

So, "No White" diet was given to me:

No white rice.
No white potatoes.
No white bread.
No white flour.
No white sugar.
No desserts.
No grits. We live in NC.
No corn.
No pasta. Whole wheat and low Carb are okay.

Fruits - Vegetables - Nuts - Proteins are Okay.

Doctor wanted me to stop eating anything with high glycemic index. No refined or high processed foods.

Started last August and have lost almost 14%. Still have more to go.

when they tested your blood did they check your thyroid, i know that affects Triglyceride levels big time. i know someone that had levels in the mid 2000's, he was in top shape, bicycle rider, mountain climber etc. for some reason they never check that, we sent him back to the doc after he got his results back and a diet change, with his diet they had to add meat, he was a strict vegatarian, but once they got his thyroid checked out the meds helped big time

  • fishlessman,

    Thanks.
Yes, 6 years ago I had an acute thyroid episode. When they got the results I was sent directly to a specialist. The endocrinologist took my pulse and blood pressure three times at the first visit. He told me most people with the thyroid levels I had would have a pulse rate of 100 beats/min. and elevated B/P. My pulse was 75 and B/P in the normal range. Since then I have my thyroid levels check at less once a year. Thyroid has been normal since 2004.

  • Get some HIGH QUALITY fish oil supplements (not the cheap big bottles at the big box stores) and your triglycerides will come down quickly.

    I take them everyday - triglycerides = 70-80's
  • Misippi Egger,

I eat fish high in omega-3 or things like peanuts on a daily basis. Also use EVOO for cooking. On meds to control but on "no white" just to be sure.

  • Still might want to look into some fish oil supplements. It is really impressive at how it lowers triglycerides. IMHO.

    PS: I don't sell any. :)
  • Misippi Egger,

Picked up a bottle of fish oil supplement. I'll try them.

  • Good. Recheck those triglycerides in 60 days or more.
  • Misippi Egger,

Should be close... I'm scheduled for first week in March for recheck/bloodwork.

    Stay tuned.
