Lodge factory outlet store-Myrtle Beach
Charleston Dave
Posts: 571
I had some business in Myrtle Beach this morning and noticed a billboard for a Lodge Factory Outlet Store. It's located at 100 Legends Rd, just opposite the Tanger Outlets on 501, so I thought I'd check it out before returning to Charleston.
The Lodge outlet shares a building with a Coleman outlet and a large "Workshop Tools" outlet, which is a store I'd never heard of before but is basically the kind of place that has sixty kinds of router bits that you never realized you desperately needed. The Coleman store sells mostly gas-powered devices, of course, but they had nifty camp furniture. If you are in MB and have ladyfolks who want to be dropped off for shopping across the street at the Tanger Outlets, between these three stores I think most guys could wander around for an hour or two happily.
The Lodge outlet sells a big selection of their cookware for 20% off list. Some of the interesting stuff I saw:
--half a dozen different cornbread cookbooks plus many cast iron and Dutch oven cookbooks
--cast iron skillets embossed with Boy Scout logo
--itty bitty 3" cast iron skillets (anybody want a single quail egg sunny side up?)
--the Lodge Logic and ProLogic lines from 2-qt to 7-qt sizes
--the Lodge "Select" line (looks like Calphalon, but it's cast iron)
--various serving pieces in cast iron with matching wood "underliners" (think fajitas plate in a Mexican restaurant, or a steak sizzle plate in a steak joint)
--cast iron wok
--enamel ware (Lodge ripoffs of certain well-known Le Creuset and Staub models)
--porcelain ware
--lots of unusual cornbread molds (corn ears, fish, etc.).
--popcorn poppers, cast iron sandwich presses and panini presses for the grill
--some specialty foods (I got a bottle of "apple butter BBQ sauce" made in Tennessee...I don't think it's going to alter my Carnivore fanboy status but it should be interesting)
Prices are 20% off Lodge list. Phone is (843) 236-7849. They told me that they do cooking demos on Fridays and Saturdays.

thanks--we have Tanger outlets here, wish we had a Lodge store. I do never get to Myrtle Beach anymore.Sounds great. We have a large Lodge skillet and a griddle and they do yeoman's duty in the kitchen. I'd like a small dutch oven for the SMall Egg but haven't found one here.

didn't know about that one but we stay away from MB. i have been to the other three outlets and never have had a problem w/ their "seconds" pieces.

Good info, Thanks! Where you able to get out with your credit card not being too bruised?

Thanks for the info. I spend a lot of time in Myrtle. Will have to check it out.

Morning. I see you are from Charleston. I live over in the Shadowmoss area and just got my LBGE for Christmas. Several cooks have turned out great. This website will drive me bonkers. Can't seem to wait to log on each day.
Quick questions, what do you use for lump and where do you normally get it?
Thanks, and good eggin. -
Welcome aboard! Being from Charleston, you might enjoy the tastings downtown at Ted's Butcher Block on East Bay; he does gourmet stuff on his XL BGE regularly. I wrote a review here.
As to lump, I get mine from WalMart. Some stores have sold out, but others are still well-stocked; during the holiday season they cut back on grilling accessories to give more floor space to Christmas stuff. My last bag of Royal Oak there was $6.37 for ten pounds. Make sure you check the bag to verify it's the American-made version, as there have been many forum reports of excessive sparking from the South American-manufactured Royal Oak. OTOH, I've never seen non-American Royal Oak at Wallyworld. ACE Hardware sells Cowboy, and some grocery stores have lump as well.
RO makes the BGE lump; there is no significant difference. -
Dave,
Which Wal-Mart location are you finding the Royal Oak at? I have not had good luck finding it.
Thanks in advance -
Goose Creek is out.
I have found it on Folly Road and also in Mt Pleasant (big pallet remaining).
It might be worth a phone call in advance to save a trip.
The Goose Creek (Redbank Rd) ACE Hardware has plenty of Cowboy.
Hope that helps!
