Can cast iron be stored in the large zip lock bags or will it not have enough air circulation? Would condensaton form in the bag?

I think you might trap moisture and then you might have rust. I just hang mine from pot rack. You could give it a try but check for moisture in a day or so.

Closed zip bag will create moisture which will result in rust.

Use a paper grocery bag and roll the opening. Works great.

ive seen my large dutch condensate with just the cover on it, i use it as a door stop without the cover now. all my other stuff hangs over the stove. maine is a very wet damp place at certian times of the year so your climate may be different

Never had any problem with well seasoned CI rusting if it's used regularly...all my CI skillets, DO, etc stored in the house are sitting out or in a cabinet..all my CI eggcessories are hanging on a nail or two on my screened in porch fully exposed to atmosphere (no direct rain or snow)...sure if you let it sit for weeks it may rust, but if used regularly, I've not had a problem..I do sit my CI daisy wheels and grates in my large from time to time when I'm doing a burn off to clean it and then spray the CI with PAM after it cools...
  • Great idea for the daisy wheel. I will have to do that tonight during the burn-off.

That's why I love this forum - you pick up great ideas when not even trying. ;)
