veggies and steak at same time

I love steak on the BGE. Cooked at fuul blast for 3-4 minutes per side then dwell for another 3-4. It's wonderfull, but....[p]How can grill aspargus at the same time? I often use our gas grill for veggies while using the BGE for steak or chicken. Last night I actually cooked steak on the gas grill as well.

  • Barry,
I've become a big fan of grilled asparagus - coat with a little olive oil and spices of your choice, then top with some coarse sea salt as soon as you pull it off. What I normally do is put it on at the end of the dwell (involves raising the lid of course) and then let it keep grillin' while the steak is "relaxing" - you pull the 'gus off right in time to serve. Time varies depending on the thickness of the spears, but I don't mind it al dente or floppy, either one - just make sure you put it on perpendicular to the grill![p]Enjoy - 'Bread

  • Cornbread Willy, word of caution though - messin with Mr Egg during the dwell period after a high temp cook is asking for potential flash back so remember the saying - "don't be a twerp - be sure to burp" ^oo^~

Barry,[p]Try my steak method at the link below. It incorporates high temp searing of the steak, followed by a 20-minute rest period of the steak at room temp, then a finishing cook of the steak at 400 F for about 4 mins a side. This would be an ideal time to throw your veggies on.[p]Resting the steak for 20 minutes at room temperature may sound strange, but I think you will be pleased with the results.[p]TRex

    Barry,
I often wok some veggies (recipe is on my website) after I finish cooking the meat. It only takes about 10 minutes start to finish, and you should let the steak rest a bit anyway....[p]TNW

    TRex,
I have tried this method for Filets and plan on using it for some NY strips this weekend. I love the results! Anyway, I was wondering if you have ever tried it with a flank steak? I am cooking two this evening and wonder if the 20-minute rest would work for this cut as well.[p]Thanks,[p]Mike

bigmikej,[p]I have never tried this method on flank steaks, but I'd go ahead and give it a try if I were you. Let us know your results! TRex
