last night tried out my normal oven baked bean recipe in my new lbge. . .took an old pot (hey, i'm smart enough to read the forum and saw where someone wasted an expensive calphlon pot in his egg, so i have now designated an old pot as my "egg pot"). . .anyway, took a couple of cans of my favorite beans (bush's), chopped onion, couple of tablespoons of dark karo syrup, couple of tablespoons of bbq sauce (sorry, but it was over the counter stuff), and a good splash of some old bottle of hot sauce in the fridge, then put 4 slices of thick bacon on top. . . through it in the egg at about 300 degrees at 2:30. . .went to the office for a couple of hours. . .i put my 13 year old daughter Sydney in charge of watching the dampers (remember, i'm new at this). . she is now my "egg-ssistant". . .she did a great job maintaining temps. . .about 4:30, added one chunk of soaked hickory (i stole it from my team captain, brett, across the street) and by 5:30, we had the best baked beans ever. . .took off the pot, opened up the dampers to get to searing temps, then threw on the burgers (only added kosher salt and ground pepper). . .best burgers and beans we have ever had. .. kids and the wife couldn't get enough. . (barely had enough beans left over to give brett and his family a taste (i had to do something, i stole his lumber). . .[p]

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]The beans sound wonderful! Something to try sometime...I like to add a little chopped (fresh) cilantro to ours....nice flavor. (in addition to everything else you added to yours)[p]It's great to have an eager, able assistant, isn't it? My 16 year old son loves helping out. Give him an assignment, and leave him alone.[p]Mike in MN
