Meatloaf - What Kind Of Wine?
Options
Spring Chicken

Just took this off the Egg and sampled some. DEEEE-Licious!!!! Best ever.
Now with something this good it should be served with wine and napkins. Any suggestions on the wine?
Made some Mini-Meatloafs too. Equially delicious.
I think we'll get some more of those little cast iron single serving thingees.

We like a nice burgandy.

Those look great Leroy. I would go with a nice Shiraz with those little dudes. The First Mate and I have been drinking Yellow Tail Shiraz recently. It's inexpensive and quite good.
-
Wow! That's some good looking loaf Leroy. I'm poking at my screen with a fork trying to get a bite! Give Trudy our best. Mark & Thea

Conventional wisdom calls for a big, fruity, spicy Zin.
7 Deadly Zins is good. I would also pair it with a jammy, smokey shiraz. Strongarms and Straight Jacket from Australia are both nice. Any other questions or suggestions, holler at me.
Enjoy,

Leroy,
Randy AZRP found this at Trader Joes. Do you have one in your area?
Ross -
The name is Nero d'Avola

I second Cecil on the Zin suggestion. A nice big red sounds great to go with a flavorful meatloaf.
Cline Old Vineyard is a nice one that is reasonably easy to find. -
California vintners in the Napa Valley area, which primarily produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic!
It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night.
The new wine will be marketed as Pino More.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX -
I'd go with a nice Merlot or Cabernet (the Nerlot for a lighter meatloaf, the Cab for a meatloaf with a more deep and hearty flavor profile).
-
I hadn't considered burgandy but you may be right. Give yourself a little gold star for that one.

Whaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Who ate all my meatloaf!!??
or
Whaaaaaa! Why wasn't I invited?
or
Whaaaaaa! There's not any left for sandwiches!

A few years ago someone mentioned Yellow Tail Shiraz and a lot of us tried it. Pretty good. It's still around and when I can't think of anything else to get I'll pick one up. Also helps that it goes on sale a lot at Kroger.

Thanks! Who's Trudy???

Thanks Walt. You must be one of those 'winoisseurs' who has a purple tongue for these kinds of things LOL
They all sound magical.

Omigosh. My apologies. I meant Judy. Been awhile since Eggtoberfest! I was editing my profile and auto-fill replaced my handle with my name. GRRRR.

Yes, definitely Red.

Believe it or not, I don't drink but have made the selling of wine & spirits my profession.

No Trader's Joe in Texas. But it sure is a pretty bottle.

Our daily drinker red is "Liberty School" Cabernet. You kind find it on sale at World Market often for about $13. It is consistently a bargain from vintage to vintatge.
-
I will definitely look for it everywhere I go and go and go.
Thanks for the plumbing advice.

I don't do Merlot (or Nerlot for that matter) but a cabernet is a good choice. The flavor wasn't Eggspecially heavy but it was definitely not light either. Sort of neither.
Spring "None Of The Above" Chicken -
Gave some to our neighbors (they wanted more) and froze the rest for another day. Tomorrow we eat fish and shrimp.
But you're welcome to come eat some of this old rotten fish and shrimp.

Tanks. Yes, a good boxed wine would go great with meatloaf. How come I didn't think of that?
Spring "Boxed In" Chicken -
World Market huh? We have one a few miles a way but I don't recall seeing any "Liberty School." I'll make a special effort to look next time.

Who's Judy??? LOL

HEB always has it, but usually at a premium.

REALLY... Do you just read enough about wines to create a sort of artificial flavor in your mind?
I drink water. Beer, Wine, Rum, Whisky's, etc are just 'enhanced water.'

Money is no object. The Texas Lottery Commission is holding a tidy sum for me if I ever get over that way again. I'll check out H.E.B. too.

Boy oh boy, you'll be a chicken in the doghouse with comments like that! Maybe the red light in the coop needs to be shut off for awhile?
