big green egg purchase
3 weeks ago i went to purchase my 3rd weber gas grill, I also had a brinkman. I noticed this funny looking green bbq in the corner of the store. I made fun of it to the salesman, And he told me all about this big green egg thing. The big green egg, it sounded like a cool concept. He told me the price for the egg with most of the accessories and I thought it was very pricy, But after 5 minutes I decided to go home with it and give it a try. Why not, its only my irs tax refund.
This has got to be one of the best investments I have made in a long time. We grilled some porterhouse steaks today, and they were by far the best we have ever tasted, tasty, juicey and done in about 8-9 min total. Tommorrow we are going to smoke 5 lbs of baby back ribs. Just bought some rib rub and bbq sauce from famous dave's. Going to slow cook at around 220 degrees. Wish me luck! The Big Green Egg Rules!

joseph valfre,
Congratulations and welcome! My Brinkman is in the storage shed; gave away my Weber kettle the day I bought my egg, 2 years ago Monday! You're obviously quite experienced in grilling/smoking so you can look forward to a lot more great meals thanks to your tax refund check! There's lots of great help here!

joseph valfre, It will probabally be the best thing you ever did with your tax money. And one of the best things about the BGE is all the fine folks on this forum! I did some good ribs last thursday, about 250 to 275 temp. indirect. I had a drip pan underneath with regular coke in the pan, and from time to time I would spray the ribs with a Apple juice/ vinagar 90/10 mix, I read this method on a post by BBQfan1. He also recomended getting a beer everytime you spray the ribs! be careful the number of times you spray the ribs or you could loose your focus! if you know what I mean. the ribs where great! [p]Good luck Dude!

Joseph,[p]Welcome, you'll find a lot of frindly advice in this forum. I've owned my BGE for 7 months and am loving it. One piece of advice:
Ignore or dispose of the official BGE recipe book and instead download Bill Wise's compliation of recipe's & hints from this forum, it's in PDF format. I printed mine double-sided on a duplex printer and put it in a 3 ring binder. Link below.[p]Regards.

joseph valfre,[p]Welcome to the club! I too was a little put off at first by the sticker shock, but in the past year, we have more than gotten our money back from not going out to eat. There's not a steak joint in town that can come close to the awesome ribeyes, filets, and baby backs we enjoy from the Egg. We did four racks of baby backs last night for some friends and they were so impressed, they're going to buy one themselves next week.[p]Again, welcome and good eatins to ya!

wflott,

joseph valfre,[p]Yeah, what Skwerl X said. You'll never hit another steak joint again. But wait! There's more! Get a plate setter and pizza stone and you'll never eat anyone else's pizza either![p](If it wasn't my genetic compulsions for a Whopper now and then there's no food joint in town that'd get my business. Except maybe Arris Pizza on my birthday... The only exception to the pizza rule. Right, Mid MO guys?)[p]Kelly Keefe
