  • A number of people have replied to fill to the Fire Ring. I'm not clear on what that is. Can you tell me approx how many inches below the grill, the lump should be? I have the XL egg.

    Fire ring simply looks like a ceramic ring or hoop. It sits on top of the fire box and the grid sits on top of the fire ring. I don't have experience with an XL, but routinely fill to near the top of the fire ring for longer cooks. That puts my lump level within an in inch of the grid level (Although I usually have the plate setter there for longer cooks.)
