This is a link for BGE Canada. The chart errs to the side of caution but basically if you can close the dome and keep the thermometer out of the meat you can cook it.

I will be attempting a 17 pounder on my medium this weekend. I am trying the dry salt brining technique also.

I think it kinda depends on how "well endowed" your bird is. We had a busty 16.5 pounder this year that just barely fit. I know it was touching the thermometer from time to time. I use the plate setter inverted with a trivet and the bird setting on a v-rack in a cake pan.
