Smoking Prime Rib?

I am getting a 10lb prime rib, no bone, to cook for my family this weekend, and was looking for some advise on cooking this. I was thinking of smoking it for a while, and then heating up to finish it off rare. Any advise or more detail would be a great help. Thanks,[p]Buck

Be careful with the wood. Prime rib takes on smoke very easy. We heavily smoke everything, but really watch the prime rib. I believe 1 chunk or hickory or other wood will give a noticable smoke flavor without over doing it.

You bring up a good point, I have cooked steaks that were fine for me (a fair amount of smoke) and my friends husband did not care for the smoky flavor. I'm used to lots of smoke in my meat but it did make me aware that when serving other to be careful.[p]Cheers,

I do mine indirect at about 350*. I use the plate setter inverted, with drip pan resting on it and the prime rib on the grill over the pan. Can't remember exact timing though. Will post when I get home and have my time/temp info.
As for seasoning...I prefer simple and let the flavor of the meat come thru.
