Hi Eggheads,
I ordered yesterday a Chemex 8 Cup coffee maker. I read about french press, cold press coffee etc. and decided to go with the Chemex method. Just curious if any of my fellow eggers use this method.

P.S. this is the link if anyone is curious what I am talking about http://chemexcoffeemaker.com/

I have seen those before but do not have one. They do look pretty cool and give you a lot of control on brew time. Let us know how you like it. I have a french press and really like it.

My folks used these back in the 60's. They gave up the old stove top percolator for this "new" method. Along about the time the first auto drip models came out, they abandoned the Chemex for this "newer" method. I always liked making the coffee w/ the Chemex. Just remember to set the boiling H2O off the fire for a while to get the temp down to just off boiling (down to about 204*) before pouring. Don't dump the all the water at once: allow the "bloom" to form and filter to drain, then add a little more, bloom, etc. Coarser ground beans for best result (like French press). I've thought about going back to this method, but each time my auto drip dies, I end up buying another one instead. Good luck and let us know your results. The Chemex method was James Bond's preferred coffee (read that in one of the books).

This one is over 30 years old.

Thanks for the info... I will let you know how it goes. I have been buying whole bean coffee for some time now and grinding it the morning of brewing. All the reviews I read about the Chemex have been outstanding. I went ahead and bought the hand blown glass one

Here is a link to a review I read that helped me make the choice to purchase.

Do you still use a Chemex to make coffee??? That is a creative way to use a retired one

Don't the peacock feathers make the coffee taste funny?

It's never been used for coffee that I know of. My husband had it when I met him. That's how I know how old it is. Didn't even know what it was for years.

LOL, I'm sure they would, they're almost as old as the pot.
