Lump Charcoal in NW Washington??

I've seen a few people here from the Pacific NW, and I'm looking for a little direction.

I occasionally see Royal Oak lump charcoal at Ace Hardware, but this time of year none can be found. My only other options are Cowboy (no thanks!) and Big Green Egg charcoal ($$$).

Where do you get your charcoal this time of year? Am I just going to have to swallow the cost of BGE lump?

You might try Fred Meyer, I got some RO in late August. Suter Home in Woodinville has Wicked Good and BGE, about the same price perhaps a bit more for the WG. I picked up a few bags of WG at the seattle eggfest for around 17. Still looking for lump prices like they pay back east.
  • I've always found a decent selection of lump charcoal at Home Depot or Lowes all year. Some of the sporting goods stores like Joe's or Sportsmen’s Warehouse will carry lump as well. Some butcher shops smoke their own meat so you can ask them who their supplier is. When I'm really desperate I'll ask my friends to go to Wal-Mart for me. I can't be seen in the joint - I do have an image to maintain! ;)

Also avoid getting lump in Seattle. Nothing wrong with Seattle but the prices for natural lump are obscene.
  • You may also want to check out AES Distributors. They were the major sponsor of the Pacific Northwest Evergreen Eggfest this year. I think their prices were a bit high but they should be able to point you in the direction of some good lump in your area of Washington. Their home page is: http://www.aes4home.com/index.html
