So I'm inviting my cousin over this weekend for pulled pork on the egg. He heard I had one and now I need to show him how amazing it is.

We're planning to do some pork shoulder. What should we cook to go along with it? I know cole slaw is mandatory, but what else?

if you are going to try a "diffrent" type slaw try this one

    Slaw, Pineapple, BigMista's

Smokey,Looks good, I've always liked salads with grapefruit or Mandarin orange slices. Here is a pineapple slaw that is tasty too. It's really good with Chinese stick ribs or barbecued pork.~thrideye~

    1 head cabbage, shredded
1 can pineapple chunks (SAVE THE JUICE)
    1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
    1 Tbs blackpepper
    1 Tbs salt
    1 Tbs brown sugar

Put the cabbage in a bowl. Add the pineapple (I like to give it a rough chop first). Mix the vinegar with 1/4 cup of the pineapple juice. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Pour over the cabbage and pineapple. Toss. Eat.

Baked beans and cole slaw here's a recipe for what I make for our PP diners and it goes fast!

    Creamy Cole Slaw

1 large head green cabbage, cored and shredded
3 med size carrots, peeled and grated
1 cup finely diced green bell pepper (I don’t always use this)
    2 large onions coarsely diced
2 cups of real mayo (NOT Miracle-Whip)
    3/4-cup sugar
    1/4-cup apple cider vinegar
    1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1-teaspoon red pepper flakes (I use a little more)
    1 tsp salt

Mix cabbage, carrots, bell pepper, and onion in a large bowl.

Mix remaining ingredients in another bowl, and then mix with the solids.

    Refrigerate at least 5 hrs.

Make your own sauce, this is simple and very good.

    MOPPING SAUCE FOR BARBECUE
    ________________________________________
    1 c. strong black coffee
    1/2 c. Worcestershire sauce
    1 c. tomato ketchup
    1/4 c. butter (1/2 stick)
    1 tbsp. pepper
    1 tbsp. salt
    1 tbsp. sugar
    Combine and simmer 1 hour.
  • Pulled pork with slaw piled onto fresh garlic bread for sandwiches.

They won't even remember what else you served.

Marvlus Marv's baked bean recipe was a big hit with my last butt.

Unless you're inviting an army, you'll need to fraction it down a little (starts out with a gallon of pork and beans).

I cut down the sugar below the proportional division and still thought they were too sweet, but then that's me.

I cut some meat off the butt when I took it off. Mixed it in the beans (per recipe), opened up the vents, put on the beans and they were done about the time the butt was through resting in the cooler.
  • We had pulled pork leftovers with polenta tonight and it was amazing together. :)

Now that sounds great. I'll suggest that to the vittles procurement boss. Never thought of fresh garlic bread! Wow! Thanks for the suggestion.
