Frozen/Stuck Egg Top--Help!

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I went out this morning to clean out the Egg and could not get the top opened. Seems to be frozen shut--it was in high 20s here in No. Virginia last night. I recall previous discussions of eggsters not being able to open the lid, but do not remember what the cause or solution to getting it open was. I've started a fire in it by putting lit firestarter + newspapers under the grid and the temp is up to 225 now, but it's still frozen/stuck solid. We're moving tomorrow and I need to get the Egg cleaned out before movers come. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Jerr,
I can't say that I have had this problem but having read through all of the posts in the past, I beleive that you are on the right track. By bringing the egg up to temp, you should be able to thaw it enogh to open it up. Here is a link to a recent discussion on it...[p]http://www.biggreenegg.com/archives/2002/messages/57555.htm

    Jerr,
If it is frozen with ice, you are on the right path to opening it. But, it might have been closed on some food, etc and so you will need to do more than just start a fire. I would suggest a thin bladed knife like a filet knife. Insert it in the center of the gasket as best you can and proceed to cut the center of the two joined halves. Work around the unit until you go around or thru the offending area. At worse you may need to replace the gasket and that is an easy job.[p]Tim
