Ok, so I've got some pics to share. Overall we had a great time...lots of comraderie, food, and good natured competitiveness. The overall winner was an unusual blend of chuck roast chunks, mild heat, and of course, corn (we're in Nebraska, go figure!). Here was my entry...everyone liked it, but all said it had too much heat.

Getting set up...that's me in the background...

The lineup...overall we had 8 entries

And of course, the ABT's...

    Frank,

The cards may have been stacked against you without the corn but, "too much heat" in chili?!

The judging body must have been a bunch of girl scouts. ;)

I feel like I have failed you in some odd way.

Next time I will give my blessing and you can add the corn. Ouch!

Sounds pretty typical. Last year I won the popular vote in our neighborhood chili cookoff by a huge margin, but lost the competition because the head judge doesn't like anything hot. I asked why he was a chili judge, but that was just my common sense shining through. Kinda like asking a vegetarian to judge a BBQ contest.

This year's competition is Sunday and we have chosen to have a simple popular vote. I am going to do 2 entries, one that will be "blast furnace" hot and one that will be for those with less developed palates.

Sundown, you didn't let me down...my wife and I love that chili!! We've only been in the midwest a little over a year, but we've noticed that there's a trend towards "less spicy" everything. There were even leftover ABT's!!! I've never seen any of those go untouched...

Fidel, good luck on Sunday...I'm sure you'll do great!

    Corn in chili... hmmmm.

Sort of the same out here. Mildly hot seems to go better than extreme hot.

    Your pictures look great.
