Amish Friendship Bread 1st Attempt

Got mine from Grandpa's Grub and wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out it's more of a dessert than a bread. And a pretty darn good dessert at that.

Took some to my neighbor along with a starter bag. They liked it too, and will start 'mashing the bag' tomorrow.

Here's what mine looked like.

I may try it again before I pass it on.

Thanks Kent...

Looks good Leroy. I have my starters to give out as well and decided to keep one myself. Did you do yours on the egg?

I did it as a bundt cake and it turned out great.

  • Decided against doing it on the Egg. Next time I will though. And probably use the bundt pan. I really like the flavor using the vanilla pudding. Don't think I would like the chocolate pudding.

I told Spring Hen now I know why it takes an hour to bake. That's how long it takes to clean up the mess I made in the kitchen LOL...

Goes really good with strong dark roast Community Coffee.

It really is more like a dessert. I did not notice even the faintest hint of smoke in mine, and I had done 20# of pork the day before in that same egg.

I took about 1:15 to get done, but it really cooked nice and even. I am definitely keeping it going.

Didn't think of it as a coffee cake, but I bet that is good with it. Thanks for the breakfast idea!

    Leroy,

Glad you liked it. I had the same thoughts about 'bread' but heck, I didn't name it. I like the vanilla and the banana was pretty good.

My wife and one grand kid likes the chocolate so I put up with it.

I will be mixing, baking and shipping out some more to morrow or the next day.

If anyone else wants to give it a try let me know.
