UPS just delivered these Tovolo silicone spatulas. They are really cool! Earlier this year Cook's Illustrated touted them for the mighty fine capabilities, strength, stainless steel handles etc let alone being a bargain at only $8.95 each from Amazon. They do have a great feel!

Then also arrived was this Oxo Food scale which they also rated as the top performer for a home environment. It has a 11# capacity and that display pulls out so large objects can be weighed.

T'was like Christmas here today!

I refuse to buy from Amazon because they sell the books that made Vicks famous.

Guess I may have to google for another source for the spatulas

Seems as if you have been doing a lot of Cooks Illustrated buying lately.I have done the same thing and just received the Bamboo cutting board yesterday that they top rated.Have not used it yet but by the weekend it will get a work out.I am having my counter tops redone in the kitchen and in the process things have moved around a bit.Was cooking up some pizza sauce with garlic and grabbed a spatula out of the familiar corner of my counter top and had a white rubber thing in my hand. After stirring for only 90 seconds I noticed a white texture appear in with the tomato and garlic sauce mix.The dam thing started to melt and thank goodness I was doing it in a non stick pan at the time. Now we have to wait for the next issue to come out and see if there are any good deals to be had.

I read Vicks and thought you were talking about the cough syrup/VapoRub people.

Michael has no "s" on the end of his name, thus the confusion.

s or no s he's still an idiot. As long as Amazon sells how to books on dog fighting I won't buy from them.

I'll pay more for a product before I use Amazon's service.

We are on the same page man.My daughters Christmas gift is going to be a set of Forschner knifes. They can not be beat period without spending ten times the amount of money.I guess that is why so many cooking schools through the country use them as well the chefs in the trade.

Anyone that has been to my house (aka "the zoo") can attest that I agree with you completely.

at last count we had 3 dogs, 2 cats, a turtle, 2 young humans, and 2 hermit crabs.

His name is Michael Vick not Vicks. He was famous before his involvement in dog fighting was made public.

While I share your distaste for dog fighting, I don't know if I want a company like Amazon to censor material they sell. Where would the censorship stop? For example treadmills are used to build muscle in fighting dogs, should they stop selling treadmills?

I am sure there are turtles around here. No hermit crabs, but there are cows...

Does it help that I host one of the biggest animal rescue mail list in the country? :woohoo: Now Hilary has a frakkin ZOO!!!!

Wal*Mart censors stuff all the time. They pick and choose which video games, music, books, and magazines to stock.

Let us not forget that Vick also had endorsement contracts with Nike, EA Sports, Coca-Cola, Powerade, Kraft, Rawlings, Hasbro and AirTran...

I also heard that he liked to drive Toyotas and eat roast beef.

Nike, EA Sports, Coca-Cola, Powerade, Kraft, Rawlings, Hasbro and AirTran all dropped his idiot self as soon as he was charged.

Amazon has refused to remove the books along with countless other evil How-Tos.

I don't rightly care how Vick's name was or is spelled. What I care about is by Amazon's refusal to remove the books from their catalog they are condoning this type of illegal behavior.

The books in question were specifically written as a dog fighting how-to. Their only purpose was dog fighting. Dog Fighting is not the only illegal material Amazon carries books for.

Treadmills are not specifically used for dog fighting; however, if there soul purpose was to be used for an ILLEGAL purpose, then yes, they should be banned.

You won't find those books in Barnes and Noble, because they choose not to sell them. They aren't technically censoring the book. They just choose to do the decent thing and not sell them.

Yes the First Amendment gives them the right to write and publish such trash, however, it also give business owners the right not to sell them.

    Amazon should exercise that right.

As a criminal defense attorney I have purchased many "how-to" guides for illegal activity. I also many prosecutors and law enforcement personal who have done te the same.

Of the many freedoms we enjoy in this country, freedom of speech is one that I value highly. I would hate to live in China where the exchange of information is restricted by the government.

Having said that, if Amazon were to promote this material, or steer people towards it like they do watches, shoes, jewelry and jock straps I would share your angst.

Interesting thread. I'm not going to weigh in, but very interesting.
I have kept up with the Vick story from beginning to current. Frankly, I never thought he was that great a quarterback, so i'm happy he no longer is one.
    Go Matt Ryan!

I’m afraid you’re correct and that is way sad. Even though he apologizes, it’s only because he lost his livelihood. I love sports, but athletes are way over paid. He had his shot, it should be over.

An intereasting twist is that he is still a member of the Falcons, or as Arthur Blank put it, they still have a "financial relationship" meaning that Vick owes money to the Falcons. They are listed as his largest unpaid creditor. He will never put on a Falcon uniform again, and we are grateful for that, but he will be back somewhere.
