First Monarchs yesterday
Beli
Posts: 10,751
Around this time every year, the trees around my home (basically the ebonies & oaks) are a Hotel for the Monarch Butterflies on their way South to the sanctuaries in Michoacán. They sleep here and then they resume their flight early in the morning to go through a gap in The Sierra Madre right in front of us. Monarchs can't fly very high so they wouldn't be able to go over the top of the Sierra. Their arrival has begun & thought of sharing it with you.

How cool! Our boys always get those kits where you raise monarchs. Now I know that they leave us, to visit you!

i've heard of this, and i've seen pics in nat'l geo (when i'm not looking at the pics of naked african girls) but that is very very cool. ...thanks for sharing first hand account!!!

Their lifespan is around 2 months, but in order to migrate, the migrating generation lives for about 7-9 months or about 320 years in human terms....

  ...a very honest and graphic description of NatGeo's personal interests..listen see you in Atlanta OK?
-
How fortunate you are to be able to witness first hand this migration! Beautiful photos, as usual.

That's creativity.....Put me first in the list of potential buyers for the painting...probably add a few more flying butterflies???? just a humble suggestion...

Big'un,
We just saw some of those kits at the store this morning and was thinking of getting some for grand kids Christmas presents.
I want to get them something different and was wondering if the kids 11 and under would enjoy them - looked pretty cool to me.

I lived in Tampico for 10 years and never knew that I could have gone to Monterrey to see the monarchs.
Thanks for sharing. -
Bob. They cross the Eastern Sierra Madre right here....south of Monterrey on their way to Michoacán
