Advice for BBQ Chicken Halves

I'm looking for some advice on how to cook BBQ chicken halves on the egg. I've done it before on an open block pit with the chicken about 16" above the coals and it takes about 2-1/2 hours. I'm not sure what to do in the egg since the lid will be closed. Any suggestions on temperature, direct or indirect heat, and approximately how long it will take.

The answer is any way you want to do them...however I usually cook mine indirect at 350 for about 1 hour and then go direct on a raised grid for the last few minutes. This is when I sauce them and get the skin crispy...the BGE is really forgiving so any way you prefer will work...just cook the breast to 160 and the thighs to 190...they will be great

The egg cooks like a convection oven so things go faster. I normally cook chickens spatchcoked, indirect, at 375 dome temps and it takes around 1.25 hours. Many on the forum cook their chickens at 500 dome temps and it takes about an hour. However you cook them, cook to a 180 thigh meat temp.

most of us like to cook whole or half, or spatchcocked at higher temps 375/400 raised grill direct for an hour or so til done. the egg will give more a roasted flavor while keeping the juicyness off the slower cookfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
