How do people keep this from happening? And what is an easy way to un-freeze once it happens?[p]Thanks!

    Timothy Reaves,
I have "frozen" mine one time and I used a putty knife to seperate it. Find a spot where you can slide (push) the putty knife between the upper and lower felt and then work the blade around the egg until it will open.

<p />Timothy Reaves,[p]There is always some leftover lump in the cookers - just lite a fire in it to unfreeze it. Always keep Webber starter cubes around and toss one in the vent under the grate. I start all my fires that way and it will soon be up to unfreezing temps. Some have said to drop a fire starter in the chimney but I like under the grate myself.[p]Here is mine unfreezing with a fire under the grate

Tim M,[p]I've done the same as you in throwing one underneath the grate as that is also how I usually start my fires. One time, however, my bottom vent was also frozen shut (I don't have stainless), so I had to go in through the top.[p]Bacon wrapped scallops with Raging River rub, a bunch o' wings with Dizzy Dust then Franks Buffalo Wing sauce, and some Nathan's "bigger than the bun" dogs are on tap for tomorrow's Jets/Bills game. Hopefully, they can break .500 tomorrow!!![p]I really hope I didn't just jinx it,

    Tim M,
Oh.....I wasn't thinking frozen, I was thinking stuck together after high temp. A putty knife won't help this!

    Timothy Reaves,
I don't know, but it seems to me that you could put foil or something on the body gasket when you shut down - to provide an extra "break apart" layer.

BlueSmoke,[p]That is what I do. Mine sticks because of the "gunk" (technical term) from the smoke getting to the felt and making it tackey. Then these spots (roughly the front 1/5 or 1/6) freeze. I use 2 cereal box tops and it has worked pretty well for me.[p]Keep em Smokin,

    Timothy Reaves,
Glad to know this happens to others as well!
My trick is to shove my wifes hair dryer in the top and go get a coffee. It takes 15-30 minutes, depending on how cold it is, but it always does the trick!
I like the idea of the cereal boxes - here in Northern Ontario the egg freezes steady
    Have fun
