While looking for some links to fire bricks, I ran across this. Anyone willing to give it a shot?

    That's Baked Alaska! Haven't seen, or even thought about, it for years.
    I think he's going to 500º because in kettle (and kitchen oven) terms that's real hot. I'd think an Egg at 650º, would work even better.
    If somebody is interested in trying this, a couple of tips from my experience with a convection oven.
    Soften the ice cream till you can force it into a round bottom bowl, and get the top (the part you'll put on the cake) as flat as you can. Cover and place in freezer.
    Freeze absolutely as cold as possible.
    Once you remove the product from the Egg or oven, you can't go back so be ready with a MAPP or propane torch to "touch up" any white areas of meringue.
