I sit here and ponder the immensity of this storm called Ike and the havoc it caused so many people. While I am grateful all our all the carbon based units we call friends have weathered this horrific storm I am sadden by the sear number of people that failed to head the warnings.

Surely these people had to have known that they not only risked their lives but the lives of those who would attempt their rescue.

Enough of that!!

As I keep a steady eye on the ether pathways into various corporate ;locations around this Big Blue Ball I see that the script kiddies are restless tonight, but they have not inflicted any damage. Those more versed in the evil skills they deem fun are somewhat restless, but they too have been held at bay.

Reports from Station Texas has been disturbing as there has been reported shortages for various supplies such as gas, and food. Reports of the Chubby Unit and the Chicken unit have been sparse today. Hopefully Rodney Dangerbird is vigilant in his duties.

I will make it my priority duty to find out how the Texas Agents are upon the Sun Rising.

A check of the communication unit shows 6 Members and 123 guests quietly observing the world.

Good Night Leroy.

I may have to recant my yahoo….power from last night. For almost three days I have been limited to a little bit of radio, talking with the neighbors and driving around just enough to see what Ike did around me. We were very fortunate to have the limited damage we sustained. We knew the storm was large and certainly caused severe damage. Everything became clearer after seeing an hours worth of news last night.

It’s unbelievable what the storm surge did to the west end of Galveston Island and especially to Crystal Beach. Taking out 95% of neighborhoods and leaving only foundations and piers. A normal (if that can happen) Category II Hurricane would not be this damaging. Ikes path up I-45 from Galveston to downtown Houston and on to Cleveland has to be utter chaos. My heart goes out to those closer to the storm and the devastation it has done.

Side note: I left the office and went to the grocery store on the way home. I had to get in line to go inside the store. Once inside I got one of the last 30 gallons of milk. The meat, seafood, cheese, lunch meat, dairy and refrigerated product isles were striped bare. Some of it tossed from lack of power, the remaining gone for lack of delivery and restocking. The frozen foods were 60% empty and they were trying to restock with what little they had. Average isles that would normally be full had scattered barren shelves. There was no me first to grab what was left. Amazingly everyone was coping with a bad situation.

We’re on the west side of Houston, the “good” side of the storm for the path it took. It’s going to take a little longer to dig out than I first thought. We don’t have a levee situation like New Orleans. We don’t have a shortage of gasoline, just a shortage of open stations. (Though it hasn’t stopped them from raising the price by 50 cents a gallon.) It’s hard to imagine there are coastal communities that will no longer exist.

Sorry to carry on, just wishing those in the path a speedy recovery.
