New Egg Owner....Many Questions!

Hi all...I've lurked...but I pulled the trigger. I purchased a used Medium BGE. It is the older model with the daisy wheel top that does not open up all the way, porcelain coated steel damper (non stainless steel), small nest 12" high on four casters, and older spring lid open system with mechanism on the sides and hinge at rear with flippy floppy wood handle.

Questons:

1) Are the cast iron tops (daisies) specific to a size...do i need a medium topper?
2) Can I purchase a ceramic topper (I don't have one) ?
and is it size specific?
3) Will the new steel band system with spring assist fit this egg?
4) Will the new SS damper replace my old one easily? Are these size specific?

I've had a large egg for four years, but I recently bought a used small egg. I replaced the band/hinge assembly, damper door, and daisy wheel. The daisy wheel top for the medium and large is the same size. I would assume the ceramic topper is the same as well. The ss damper doors are size specific according to the place I ordered my parts from. I purchased all of my stuff at: outdoorhome.com

good job on buying an egg, especially a used one.

1) the dual function metal tops (dfmt) are size specific; one for mini, one for small, and one for medium/large/xl
2) the same goes for the damper tops
3) the new spring assisted band for a medium egg will fit.
4) stainless steel draft doors fit like this: one for mini/small, one for medium/large, one for xl. you'll have to remove your old one and bolt the new one on. the new ones have a mesh screen that keeps dog noses out, and hot coals in.

New or used it is the best purchases you have made! we have one used, shhh... don't tell it it thinks it is just like the others :)enjoy and ask questions and post pictures. My used one is not to old, was only a year, so had all the new stuff but there are lots on here to help you. Welcome, Julie
