BGE lump back in Houston

To Spring Chicken and all my other fellow Houston Eggers, I was at BBQs Galore in Sugar Land (the Fountains) yesterday to pick up some lump, and to my pleasant surprise I found that they had started carrying BGE lump again--that's right, no more of that sketchy BBQs Galore lump. I was so pleased that I bought a couple of bags, in case this was a short-lived kind of thing, but one of the managers there assured me that they would be carrying BGE lump for now on (apparently, enough people complained about the other stuff). [p]Also, talking further to the manager there, she told me that she wanted to do a BGE cooking demonstation / mini "Eggfest" out at their store sometime in January to promote the Egg. She asked me if I'd be willing to help out, and I, of course, said absolutely. Spring and any other of you Houston Eggers let me know if you would be interested in cooking and helping out as well. I told the manager that I would put the word out in the forum. She's trying to figure out if she can get about 5 Eggs that we could cook on, that I imagine she would then sell at discounted prices at the end of the day. No details have been arranged, just some initial discussion . . . [p]TRex

  • TRex,
Keep me posted. Sounds like fun. I'm doing a dry rub brisket with bacon strips on top as we speak and it is up to 167° after five hours. I figure I've got brisket down well enough to do a demo for someone. Another easy to cook recipe is the Spatchcocked Chicken. You almost can't mess that up. Ribs are simple too. Might be a good place to do a stuffed pork loin to REALLY show off. And of course there is always room for some ABT's.
    Yes, Keep me posted.[p]Spring Chicken

Spring Chicken,[p]I will certainly keep you posted. You're more of a veteran Egger than I am, so we would need your eggspertise. We also need to see if BBQs Galore would supply the meat or not. My personal favorite thing to do is NY strips, but that gets $$. Also thought about doing jerky (takes about 5 hours or so) or possibly pork loin or hot wings.[p]Think it could be a lot of fun. I'll keep you in the loop.[p]TRex

TRex,[p]Hey, Houston isn't that far! Might be fun if it's on a weekend. Buffalo wings would be good also. They're quick and great tasting.[p]mShark
