I have what may be a kind of stupid question to everyone who does "Boston Butt". or just plain "butt", or "pork shoulder". It does not seem that I have ever seen in any of the butcher shops or grocery stores in my area something like this. I have seen some quite small "pork shoulder", but nothing resembling what everyone talks about here. Just wondering if any of the Canadian contingent can advise as I know our trems are a bit different for cuts of meat.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Could you advise what the average weight of one would be?
Thanks again in advance. -
The web page sent gives you the whole shoulder with the picnic [front leg area] then the butt with the neck bones removed. If you look at the end of the Boston Butt [pork shoulder] you will see a small bone this is where the picnic is attached. It is sawed off to make two cuts of meat.
These weigh about 5-7 lbs for picnic and 6-9 lbs for shoulder butt. Some abator will sell them together as a shoulder but I have not seen that often.
The picnic has a differant texture and flavor it is a walking muscle. The Boston Butt is the neck area and back.

6-9 pounds. You can get them smaller. If you buy them at any of the big box food clubs you will get TWO to a package.
