Well the steaks were a great success, I have pics but I feel tht I need a greater accomplishment to post pics, 8 min of cooking doesnt really seem like a big deal, what was great was the flavor the egg produced, we were in heaven. At any rate, as I previuosly discussed my egg is used, this segways to my question, the thermometer was not reliable however, at one point it was at 350, I tappeed it and it shot up to 700, which is where I thought the fire was. As my unit is old (no jokes please)does it sound like I need to replace the thermo?
Thanks as always

why dont you try and calibrate it?
If it is very far off, replace it with a new one.

I think its past its time, plus, this will start the "overhaul" i have planned, after the thermo i plan on installing the spring hindge.

If the red indicator in the thermometer is 'hanging' up against the face plate or against the window material it obviously has a problem and needs to be replaced.
If the dial does not climb smoothly then again it needs to be replaces.
The thermometers do need to be checked and calibrated. Use the 7/16" nut on the back, on top of the stem.

Maybe it's the Egghead equivalent of a clock stopping when the owner dies.
