Do I buy the BGE or stay with my weber? I see lots of good coments but I don't know a close friend or an associate that owns an Egg. Convince me! I have been looking at Gas or Electric grill and smoker.

Terry Jones,[p]I guess the first question is what are you looking for, a grill, a smoker, something that easy to use, something that is fas and convenient? For me, the egg offers the best of all worlds. If you're in Atlanta, stop by the store![p]<img scr="http://webpages.charter.net/dmetz/smokey.gif">

Terry Jones,[p]I have three eggs and a weber gas grill. I bought my first egg almost two years ago and use one or more of them, at least three times a week. The weber has been used a total of 0 times since then (i must sell that thing). The food is amazing, the cooking is fairly easy, and this forum will become a "favorite" place to check out if you decide to invest in one for yourself. Good luck with your decision, if you hang around here long enough you will most certainly decide on a BGE.[p]Chuck <><

Terry Jones,[p]I used Weber for years and years. I had two. My sons gave me a MBGE when I retired a couple of years ago and I can tell you in simple terms: Get the egg![p]You can smoke, grill, bar-b-que or use like an oven. You can do pizza. You can get tempatures from 150 to 800 degrees. If you would like another Weber stop by my place in Roanoke VA and you can have my old one. Still in great shape.[p]Big Ed

Terry Jones,[p]Your very first cook on an Egg will rock your world and change your whole perspective about outdoor cooking. They really are that good.[p]I picked up a large Egg 6 years ago and was so impressed that I just had to add the rest of the family to my collection. The Webers, Hasty and the gasser are still used upon occasion, but feeling mighty lonely these days. They simply do not offer the versatility of providing any temp you require and for any length of time without tending.[p]K~G

KennyG,[p]Is Carol locked behind the door with the Hasty Bake parked in front? And you still have room for the car in there?[p]Nice collection.[p]Tim

Tim M,[p]Thanx,[p]If you can believe it, All of these toys can be arranged against the side walls to allow for both cars to fit.[p]When I get that pellet cooker, I'm going to have a problem hehehe[p]K~G

Terry Jones,
The BGE offers a variety of good points:
*Using natural charcoal is environmentally friendly since it produces less ash, burns a lot hotter, and is reusable when the BGE is shut down after the end of your cook.
*Food tastes and smells better since you do not use lighter fluid to light the charcoal.
*Kid friendlier with the ceramics - yes, you can still get burned, but not the instant burn of a metal grill.
*Food is a lot juicier. The constant flame from a gas grill dries out the food easier.
*Less likely to get stolen due to its lack of handles and weight. It is still portable in a table, but the thief cannot run too fast with it and I could probably even catch the thief.
One problem: You will probably get to host many cooking demonstrations or parties, due to the taste of the food.
We can try to convince you with words, but when you try something off the BGE - you'll know why we are die hard Eggers.

Terry Jones,
I would go with a BGE. It is more versatile than a gas grill. You can grill, smoke, and bake all with one unit. It will last a lifetime. And the food tastes so much better when cooked on an egg.[p]Where are you located? There may be some eggers here that are close to you, and would show you the in's and out's of egging. I was the first person in my area to buy an egg (other than my dealer), but he fired up a demo egg, and offered to cook for me at the store. I was hooked then![p]~nikki

• Terry Jones,
Someone once said "I never had any memorable cooks on a gas grill, but I have had many memorable cooks on a BGE.

Terry Jones,
I agree with most of the other posts on this subject and have this additional perspective.[p]I had always been an occasional BBQer with just poor-fair results cooking for family and friends and it was a CHORE. Since I got my BGE I am now Q'ing at least twice a week with great results and it is FUN. With the help of this forum I have become interested in the many aspects of BBQ and cooking in general; the CHORE has become a fun hobby.[p]Finally, the BGE has just the right amount of things for me to fiddle with(dampers, fire building, set-ups, types of lump & chips, etc.) to get that sense of accomplishment.

Terry Jones,
Thinking about what nikkig said below, why not click on the link at the top of this page (after entering your zip code) and see if there is a nearby dealer willing to demonstrate the Egg.
I bought my large Egg on the strong recommendation of a friend and Q competitor, to go along with a gas grill and a steel offset cooker. For the past 18 months I've used neither, and have thoroughly enjoyed firing up the Egg at least once a week.

• KennyG,
Why would want to cook pellets? That's sillier than smoking pellets. Do you cook them before you smoke them? Sorry, feeling silly, better than I take it out on you guys than in a problem record with a customer....[p]TNW

The Naked Whiz,[p]I know those pellet cooker guys are smoking something. I just want to try a pipefull myself hehehe[p]K~G

• Terry Jones,
I love to cook outside. When my wife wanted new outdoor furniture, I told her that I would buy her the furniture, if she would buy me a ceramic cooker. She agreed. After our first cook, she fell in love with it. SHE now has a two ceramic cookers in a period of a few months. I only get to play with them when she is away.[p]These cookers are the most impressive things I have ever cooked on, more impressive than my Ducane Gas grill, that I paid twice as much for (but had to leave at the last house we live in, where it was permanately installed).

nikkig,
I am in Glendale, Az. I am going to call one of the dealers here to see if I can get a demo. Thanks to all for the responces. I think my mind is made up.

• Terry Jones,[p]I loved my Weber but I wanted a unit that would install in an outdoor BBQ island. I just bought my Egg and can't say enough good things about it. If you are a BBQ purist you can't get that flavor without wood. The egg lights easily and is at cooking temperature so quickly it will amaze you.[p]
