vertical chicken roaster question

I recently purchased a medium Green Egg and am wondering if my medium Egg is too small to accomodate a vertical chicken roaster on a setup with a platesetter legs up and the grill rack sitting on top, and then the vertical chicken roaster. Am I out of luck, medium Egg owners?

I don't own a medium, but think you will be ok. If it is tight.....couple of things.
You could just sit the rack on the plate setter legs up(with drip pan). That would save a couple of inches.
The first point of interference may be the probe of your dome gauge. You could move the bird towards the back of the egg, or pull the gauge out and go old school.
You could forget the verticle roaster and put the bird on the grid. You have pleanty of room. -
I haven't tried a vertical roaster in my MBGE, but I just went out and pulled the cover and measured a bit. Inverted plate setter should place the grid close to gasket level. That leaves just about 9" to the top of the dome. I don't have a yardbird around to measure, and I'm not sure of the geometry of your roaster, but seems like that's a bit tight. If you are planning to use a drip pan, you might consider placing it on the PS deck (using spacers such as copper elbows or Egg feet to lessen burning of drippings) and placing the roaster rack in the drip pan (omitting the grid). I'm sure others will come up with innovative alternatives. Good luck.

ive cooked beer butt chickens both direct, and indirect using only a pan, you really dont need a platesetter to roast a chickenfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
