ok, what's the deal witht he mold? I have two eggs at home that never mold and one at the lake house that molds if i don't use it every two weeks. i leave it covered (vented cover) rain cap on and damper open. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also leave the cast iron grate inside the egg. I wonder if i would be better off not covering?

Otherwise before you leave the lake do a cleaning burn to make sure all remaining food items are cooked off. -
well for openers you say you leave the damper open and the dome covered. That is a source of air - infact cold air still being drafted in due to the warmer lighter air in the closed dome. When the warm and cold moist air present from the nearby lake you're asking for trouble. Close top and bottom.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
