QBabe,
Yowza!! Now you are talkin. I just did some solo camping with da little green thang up in vermont. Vermont maple sausages. Little Vermont chickens. Country Ribs.[p]Is it just me? Or do you find everything tastes even better in the woods?[p]Where did you camp?
Cheers
Chris

Nature Boy,
EVERYTHING, I mean everything definately tastes better in the woods![p]We were in north Georgia, near the S. Carolina border...not the mountains this time, but enjoyed some quality relaxation, quiet and solitude, and got to spend some time with old friends. It was definately a wonderful trip.[p]BTW, how far are you from DC? I'm going to be up there Sat for a week at a conference.[p]Margaritas to ya!

QBabe,
Solitude is what counts. Like, leave us alone, and let us celebrate the many areas in our beautiful country that most people don't go on an average day![p]I am about 15 miles, or so, west if DC. Just west of the city of Fairfax. Email me, and we can try and hook up while you are up here.[p]Margaritas. Yum.

QBabe,[p]When you slow cook a Butt or chicken on the small BGE...
(9" grill?) ...do you have to use a heat a heat deflector of any kind? Seems like the food would be pretty close to the heat.
-
Whoops the 9" grill is in the mini![p]Has anyone tried a Butt in a mini?[p]

Texian,[p]When we bought our small, we also bought a second 13" grid and some firebricks. We then split the firebricks (some have mentioned buying splits, but we couldn't find them that way, just whole) and use them both to raise the second grid up and for under the drip pan as a heat deflector on the regular grid. The hardest part is making sure that once the butt is raised it doesn't touch the dome or thermometer and that the top closes. So far, so good...I've done several butts , spatchcock chickens, burgers, hot german potatoe salad, hot dogs, sausage and kabobs on it, all with success. Haven't figured out the logistics for ribs yet, though.[p]QBabe

QBabe, you may want to check with RhumandJerk. He did some ribs on the mini at EGGtoberfest 2000 by rolling them up and cooking them standing. By how fast they went, I'd say they were pretty good.

YB,[p]Whoops, forgot to give credit where due. Yours is a great idea. Remember, some of us yankees don't have access to such fine fasteners.[p]K~G
-
KennyG,[p]You should have a marine supply store somewhere in your neck of the woods, right? They'll have SS nuts, bolts, washers, etc.[p]Puj

Puj,
I think just about every large town has a West Marine. We have a nuts and bolt store here in Augusta that carries every bolt knowed to man.

Nature Boy,
Click on the climber below to see hanging onto the side of a Montana mountain. That little elk
wallow in the upper right is 2000 ft below us and where you would end up if you stepped
off the cliff my son is standing on. Nothing like being 8000 ft high in the Rockies.

KennyG,[p]Mine are stainless steel as well - I picked them up at Lowe's. They are in the "specialty fasteners" drawers.[p]Cheers -[p]Mike
