Labor Day Egg-Safety Reminder !

Hope everybody is going to cook on their Eggs today !!
Here at the "South Jersey" shore the sun is out and everybody is heading for the beach ...me ... staying and cooking dinner.
Anyway ... I want to take a moment to remind everyone that Labor day is a good "reminder day" for everyone to remember to check over their Egg ....ESPECIALLY NEWBIES ... CHECK EVERYTHING , Especially the spring bands for tightness. (Also all the bolts on your nest if you have one, especially the ones that mount / secure the wheels)
* Remember the bolts that hold the spring bands should be BENT ... they should be that tight ....They can loosen over time so PLEASE check the tightness and now is a good day to do it. If they should loosen, you could have your dome drop while it's hot and that is not pretty! Here's what it looks like and happy Eggin on Labor Day everyone.

do the dollar bill test, then bend dem boltz!

Thanks for the reminder. While we're on the subject, these are all supposed to be loose, right? All mine are anyway. . .
-
Yes, a tad loose. That is where the hinge moves so an occasional drop of "3 in one" or other light oil on those doesn't hurt either. Especially for those Eggs that are constantly exposed to the weather.
-
You want those tight, then back them off about 1/4 turn to give the hinges free movement.
The bolt with 2 nuts that the springs are hooked to are especially important. Those hold the lid up. Make sure the nut closest to the hinge is tight. If those are loose the bolts will be pulled upward at an angle by the springs and the lid will not reliably stay up when lifted.
This pic is upside down, but I took it when I was all hopped up on pain killers - you should get the general idea from it though.

"This pic is upside down"
Was wondering why my hinge looked different.
