Bent band or hinge?

I used our lg egg for a yr no problem. Then a gap appeared in the back and the gasket burned out. Replaced the gasket and followed the recommendation of loosening the upper band, sitting on it, and retightening. At first it is all tight but as you tighten the band the evil gap returns, bigger than ever and we have now burnt out a second gasket (I need to order another) - gasket never really sealed since lid not putting pressure on it to cure. Could my band be bent? I'm afraid to mess too much with the hinge - I'm not super mechanical. The dealer I bought it from has no specialist they say who can help. I miss my egg. I'll try calling GA next week but any advice would help.

I took a pic too...http://homepage.mac.com/danielle_conrad/PhotoAlbum19.html

From what I can see in that picture, it looks like the right side, top band isn't level/straight. I can see the lip below the band. Try loosening the top band again, and tighten it after you're sure the top band is straight. You may have to check it as you tighten the top band. From that only angle, the bottoms seems ok, but it could be out as well. Check to see where the lip is sticking way out of the band before you start. From what I can see, I think it just needs to be adjusted some more.

Thanks - I thought it looked funny. Will try again but am also waiting for feedback from HQ! And a new gasket...
