I have looked for a recipe for a great butt rub found a few that i have tried that were pretty good does anyone have one that would reccomend. also has anyone tried injecting a butt? if so how was it? i did a butt a few weeks ago for a friend who's wife is a real critic even though she gave great reviews she mention that there was little season in the middle of the butt so i'm planning on doing one for myself this week end and wanted to know how to get season through out the cook as to adding it at the end during the pulling process

I've injected butts with no real difference.

I cut off a good bit of bark, chop it fairly fine, then mix it in with the pulled meat. This gets a good bit of bark/seasoning/smoke flavor throughout.

As for rubs - I like Dizzy Pig's Dizzy Dust, John Henry Pecan, or I make my own with the usual suspect ingredients.

Dizzy Dust is great. Emeril's Essense is good.

I have found that injecting while the meat is in the plateau works best. If you are going ot inject I suggest that you find a good Eastern NC BBQ sauce and inject that.
