Gasket on my mini

Well I started up the mini with everything open all the way with Royal Oak. I went into the house and put together my first stuffed Jalapeno. In the time it took me to mix the cheese and meat cut the peppers in half seed and clean then stuff my mini got to well over 700 degrees. Shame on me. The front of the gasket is gone but no smoke leak. I am letting it cool down and will do the dollar bill test tomorrow. I did the dollar bill test at assembly and it passed at all points. I have used the mini 3 - 5 times a week for over a month and this is the first gasket issue. I think I am going to leave as is especially if I still get a tight seal with the dollar bill.

Comments

  • On my first Mini cook the top gasket pulled away. I took it off and am operating with only the bottom gasket and everything is working just fine.
  • I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I think an air tight gasket is really on necessary for lo'n'slo cooks as there is a greater need to restrict airflow to maintain steady low temps. when cooking at 300* and over I think you should be good as you can adjust for the leaky gasket more easily. I use my mini for all sorts of cooks and the gasket is pretty bad but totally functional.

If you're really concerned, RRP on the forum might be able to set you up with a new Rutland gasket for your mini if he's still in the biz. He sent me one that I haven't insalled but I think I will try this weekend.

I was told that if your egg doesn't leak smoke you should be fine. Time will tell on this one.

I would still check for visual gaps and the dollar bill test.

Check this morning before work and the dollar bill test passed. I am going to ignore it. I will try to remember that the mini does get up to high temp fast.
