Hello fellow Eggers

Well here is my situation ....on saturday I started the egg for some corn on the cob as the egg got up to temp I opened the lid to get the corn on the grill ant to my surprise I notice a crack in my fire ring .

So I'm wondering what would cause this and is there any warranty on this??I't still very usable but kinda gross havin' a damaged egg if ya know what I mean.

Most likely, it is covered under the warranty.

The ring on my medium is in two pieces and has been for a few years. It works great and I think a two piece fire ring makes a lot of sence (but that's just me)!

That's a warranty issue and is covered, It's perfectly usable in it's current condition.....

Mine cracked a month or so ago, I am going to ignore it.
Many boarders have been running cracked fireboxes for years.

I cut my fire ring in two, easier to remove and handle. ;)

Just from a manufacturing standpoint, it makes sense. It would also eliminate the possibility of expansion issues. What did you use to cut it? Maybe I'll cut the one on my large in half.

I think of it as a positive thing...the ring had been under stress - now it's at peace!

Here's my firebox - look at the cracks - it cooks just fine!

there's no issue using it, though it should be covered under warranty if you really are upset about it.

mine finally (they eventually all crack) went after about five years.

usually the firebox goes first. i got a new one after maybe three years, but it's cracked too.

I made a stress-releaving cut in my firebox. No cracks so far after 4 years of hard use. This was just a test to see if expansion relief would help stop it from breaking apart..... but then the cut canceled the firbox integrity. :pinch:
Oh well, I guess what I made was a 'controlled' break, he he he.

And what is the device beneath the firebox?

You cancle warranty when ya mess with the part, just so you know. There, I said it.
Now back to modifications. Yes it does make sense when you think about the physical properties of the material and how the material behaves under heat changes.
A lot of work goes into product development.....don't ask how I know. B)

An ash pan I don't use anymore.
I got somethin better now, a 'lump bucket'. So easy to lift out, dump ash, build a new fire and it works sooooo well at burning the lump evenly. This is the way.

Clay, did you build that lump bucket or find it for sale somewhere?

    Thanks in advance,

My fire ring cracked in two -- It took a while, but I got it replaced by the dealer. I'm still using the cracked one, and have the new replacement in storage.

My fire box disintegrated, fell apart, and couldn't be pieced back together except with JBWeld...

...sooooooo... I JBWelded it. I had to bring it in to the dealer in pieces, so he could verify that it was really broken by thermo-stress, and not by me dropping it, yada-yada...

Now, approaching three months and still waiting for the dealer to come up with a firebox!

Word of advice to new buyers -- Find a dealer that isn't "just" a hardware store with one Egg as a floor model. And, be sure to buy from a dealer who can and will honor your warranty within a reasonable amount of time.

I took measurements of the firebox interior and found a stainless bowl at a department store that was a close match. Drilled out the holes that approximately aligned with holes in the fire grate and firebox and wa-la, lump bucket. Also added stainless wire handles, a nice feature.
I plan on making a lumb bucket for my mini, when I do I'll post a picture.

The crack will not cause any trouble, but it is covered under warranty. Mine has been cracked for years but I just keep using it.
