The wife and I are driving cross country from Atlanta to California for our nieces wedding in San Diego. Our route will be I40 west out there and I80 east to Denver and drop to I70. Going through Salt Lake City, close to Taylorsville. ;-)
Anyone who has run this route, we need things to see! Grand Canyon and Four Corners is on the list but anything along the trip would be appreciated!
Thanks!

If you go near Denver try Pike's Peak. Also there is a town about 30 or forty miles from Denver in the mountains that has casinos. Unfortuanely I have forgoteen the name of the town but the drive to it is spectacular. It takes you through old mining towns and some breath taking turns on the mountains. When I use to go there I just marveled at the strength, determination and tenacity of our pioneers.

Seems like an out of the way route from Atlanta to Sandiego, wouldn't 20 to 10 to 8 be better? -RP

I'm not a member - just read the forum a lot. Had to add a comment on some of my favorites along the route.
If you like to hike, there's a great hike to Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon. It's a steep hike but beautiful when you get there. Also, about an hour south of Glenwood Springs is Aspen and the drive there is very pretty.
Not sure where this is in relation to your route, but Bryce Canyon is also beautiful. Here's a link to the National Park Service info.

Well, have sister in Cupertino, brother in Sacramento, and mother in Paridse, CA. So all will be visited.

If you are going west out of Denver on the I70, Moab UT is only 30 miles south on I191. There are two National Parks there. Arches and Canyonlands. Worth the trip. It's also on the way to Four Corners.
Arch overlooking Colorado river and yes that's me on the arch!

I'll second GG! The welcome mat is also always out here. We are in Littleton, Co. about 15 miles south of Denver. If you are craving egged goodness by then, drop on by and we'll whip some'en

I-40 W.. Somewhat Boring till you get past Texas. Though you will drive through Nashville and Memphis and over the Mississippi River.
The Drive through New Mexico and Arizona should be done during the day.
The drive through New Mexico is pretty spectacular. In Arizona you will come with-n 8 miles of Meteor Crater and 60 miles of the S. Rim of the Grand Canyon. 90 miles North out of Kingman, Arizona will put you at the Boulder Dam.
I-80 doesn't go through Denver. You'll have to take I-15 out of Salt Lake City to I-70 to get to Denver. If you have time here you might consider a short side trip to the Air Force Academy and the Atomic Clock in Boulder, Co.
On the way back make sure you are driving during the day on I-70 through Utah and Western Colorado. Whewww it is breath-taking. You will drive through Denver and then you will be bored to death till you hit Kansas City. Be sure to stop at the Gateway Arch. in St. Louis. The route you are looking at will take you through Louisville, KY.
I will suggest that you take I-64 through W. Va, to I-77 in NC and then back to I-40. Some pretty country there.
Memories  -
Thanks for the offer!
